Academic Requirements

Grading System

The grading system used at Maud Williams High School is as follows:
*The school year consists of two semesters each of 19 weeks

85 - 89 Very Good (Advance Competence) B+
80 - 84 Competent B
75 - 79 Moderately Competent C+
70 - 74 Minimally Competent C
65 - 69 Developing Competency D+
60 - 64 Weak D
0 - 59 Unsatisfactory F
*Note: Honors is a grade 80 and above

Promotion Requirements

Essential Subjects

Students are required to pass 2 core subjects being Mathematics and English.

Academic Competency

Students are required to obtain a score average of 60% or higher.

General Benchmark

Apart from the 2 core subjects, students are also required to pass 3 other general subjects.

Summer Classes

A student who has a passing average but has failed either Math and/or English with grades between 50% and 58.40% may be offered summer classes. If the student passes then he/she will be promoted. When summer class is not offered such a student will be promoted on academic probation for first mid-semester, on the condition that:

  • The student must pass with an average of 60% or over.
  • Attened mandatory academic support.
  • At the end of the first mid-semester if that student did not obtain a passing grade of 60% or over, he/she will be demoted to the previous form.

Report Cards

Feedback to parents on students' progress is provided to parents through mid-semester reports and report cards. A mid- semester report is given to all students reflecting their performance in all subject areas so they may be aware of subjects that they are failing (below 60%) or passing marginally, below 64%).

End of the year report cards can be picked up at the secretary's office. Report cards are given to parents or legal guardians only, however any responsible individual who brings a written authorization from the parent will be given the report card.
